About Free Future
In the US, femicide is up by almost 25 percent over the last 9 years. In countries as varied as Colombia and Nigeria, the majority of women say in surveys that harassment and violence have worsened since the COVID-19 pandemic. And around the world, a creeping anti-rights movement threatens some of the legal and political gains survivors and their allies have made over the last decade.
This is the front-page story that rarely makes the front pages. Free Future, a collaboration between the Ford Foundation’s Gender, Racial, and Ethnic Justice International (GREJ-I) and The Meteor, is dedicated to examining, and changing, that. To looking at the systemic crisis of GBV from multiple angles. To imagining, and building, a freer future.
About The Ford Foundation
We believe in the inherent dignity of all people. But around the world, too many people are excluded from the political, economic, and social institutions that shape their lives.
Across eight decades, our mission has sought to reduce poverty and injustice, strengthen democratic values, promote international cooperation, and advance human achievement.
Ford's Gender, Racial, and Ethnic Justice International (GREJ-I) program plays a key role in the foundation’s efforts to reduce gender-based violence, end structural inequalities, and expand the role of philanthropy in global processes.
About The Meteor
We are a group of journalists, artists, filmmakers, and media leaders who believe in the power of words, images, and stories to advance gender and racial justice and equity—and transform the world. Through live events, podcasts, newsletters, video and more, we look at the issues of the day from the points of view of women, girls and LGBTQ and gender-nonconforming people.
